STEM CELLS: NEWER APPROACH FOR PERIODONTAL REGENERATION

Stem cells are the foundation cells for every tissue and organ in the body, including the periodontium. Periodontitis is a periodontal
tissue destructive disease and the most common cause for tooth loss in adults. There is no ideal therapeutic approach to cure
periodontitis and achieve optimal periodontal tissue regeneration. Periodontal regeneration approaches used till now are not able to
regenerate periodontium completely to its pre-existing levels. Periodontal regeneration using stem cells is a promising field of tissue
engineering for periodontal regeneration, but the feasibility of concept is still in clinical pipeline and research has long way to go.
